More studio stuff:)

I'm still feeling pretty 'green' when it comes to studio photography but couldn't pass up the opportunity to take this couple's photos- how could I go wrong with models like this right?!

The problem for me and studio work is that I want more backgrounds, more lights, more stands and reflectors, more space, more props, and an assistant would be fantastic! I guess I'll just be thankful for what I have for now:)

Another Fun Family Shoot!!

This is my beloved cousin and her family:) This was also our second try at family photos. A couple of weeks ago we were going to try to take some photos when I went to go visit her but the weather was absolutely awful and so we decided to try again this weekend. When she arrived we were losing light fast, but we were still able to get some great shots I think. How could we not... look at this cute family?!

Well there is nothing quite like a newborn session when it comes to me being baby hungry. This little guy is sooo precious. As long as he was swaddled or being comforted by his mom and/or grandma he was as calm and as peaceful as could be! Oh I wanted to hold him, but I was more than happy to be taking his pictures too:)

With the cold weather nipping at our toes, I decided to try my hand at studio photography again in my living room. Do you remember this sweet little face from this post? She was a perfect little model again and was so patient with us changing her outfits and backgrounds!! Don't you just want to hold and play with her all day?!

I had a really hard time trying to decide which photos to show on here- there were too many good and fun ones to choose from!!! So what I am about to share is probably picture overload, but I loved them all so much! And yes, I do seem to just luck out with getting such gorgeous families to photograph. This was the first family though that I haven't had to bring candy or toys as bribery to look at the camera and smile ;) The father in this family is a fabulous photographer himself, so I was a little nervous about this shoot. Hope you enjoy!

Okay, so as you all can see, this is another aDoRaBlE family I had the pleasure of photographing. Adorable!! And they were just as fun to photograph as you might imagine, but these kids?! They are beyond cute are they not?!?! I was swooning the entire time over just how cute they were.

My cousin was in town this weekend and contacted me to see if I would be able to get a few pics of her cute family. I was so excited and came up with the brilliant plan to head up the canyon, hoping to be able to roast some hot dogs, catch up, and take some photos. Driving up the canyon took way longer than I thought, we were losing light fast, and it was freeeeezing once we got to our destination (there was snow on the ground up there!!). Needless to say, it was not the best plan I ever came up with. We were a little rushed, but when you've got a family this gorgeous how can you go wrong?! Here are some of my faves...

Oh yeah, and another lesson learned... don't try to bribe cute toddlers with a HUGE sucker at the beginning of a session!! Oh well, that's what being a newbie is all about right?! Lesson(s) learned. Thanks for being such troopers Melissa and Ryan!

These girls made me miss my mom and sisters!! It was so fun seeing their sweet relationships! I had so much fun with them and felt so lucky to get such models to photograph!! I got so many great shots I had a hard time deciding what to share on here!!!!

I’ve always been enamored with beautiful photography, but I had little exposure to taking photos growing up. I think I started using disposable cameras in middle school, and had a regular cheap point and shoot from high school to college. I took a photography class in high school that I loved and was able to do the same in college. My college course however, seemed to be more of an “intro to how expensive photography is” kind of course- I think that was in part to help weed out those who weren’t serious about photography. It certainly intimidated me, because I have never been one to be able to have much means to provide for expensive interests.

I got my first digital camera in college and had a lot of fun playing around with the lighting, settings, reading the manual, and getting to know more about what made a photo work without having to pay a lot for film and printing. In February of 2008 my husband surprised me with my beloved Nikon D60. It has been an excellent camera for me and I can’t get enough of photography these days.

It seems that digital photography has made photography more accessible for many people and it has become somewhat cliché to see people starting their own small photography businesses without much education or experience. While I can’t say the thought hasn’t crossed my mind to try to do photography, I realize that I have very little formal training, and am not about to try to jump in the game unless I am good. Until I get to that point I just love having great photos of my own family and life experiences.

I love photoshop and I love all that there is to learn about photography and photoshop. I think my background in graphic design and my passion for all things aesthetically pleasing will aid me in my quest to become a better photographer.

With all that said, I suppose this blog is just a blog for me to display my photography, maybe get some feedback, and hopefully see my photos progress, as well as develop my own personal photography style.

I have always been a visual learner, a creative thinker, and an organizer. I fell in love with graphic design when I was in college. I was a little unsure of what to declare as my major. I knew I wanted to take a lot of art classes and learned I had to be an art major to do that. When I read about graphic design my heart skipped a beat. It seemed to be the perfect mix of art, technology, and organization. Sure enough, it proved to be the perfect fit for me. I found out later that my dad had studied graphic design in college as well, so it may just have been in my blood all along. Four and a half years later I had recieved my Associates Degree in Graphic Design from BYU-I (then known as Ricks College) and my Bachelor's degree in Visual Arts with an emphasis in graphic design from BYU. After graduating I worked for a phone book company, a sign company, and in marketing.

Other Random Facts about me:

-I am a stay-at-home mom.

-I love all things domestic.

-I grew up in the Northwest and miss it dearly.

-I have a great love for the outdoors.

-I am the fourth of five girls.

-My husband is the sixth of six boys.

-My husband has an identical twin brother.

-My husband and I have been married for five years.

-We have an adorable little two year old boy.

-Other hobbies of mine include photography, crafting, cooking, and reading.
